Flimsy box, Open showing two cans. With lid.
£3.00
This is an Flimsy box with lid removed showing two cans inside(Not removable). The box was known as clothing to the Middle East forces and The 4 gallon Tin, Lightweight' needed it to give it strength, Flimsies were notoriously rubbish and only had two good points according to an original wartime comparison to the Jerri-can. A) they had square corners so didn't waste space in transport. and B) the handle folded flat. As much as 50% of fuel could be lost using flimsies if they were not handled and transported properly.
Flimsy boxes were used since the invention of the motor car and were relatively sturdy. If taken out to the front lines and beyond, the empty boxes were often used for furniture and firewood. If not stowed properly the boxes could break apart and puncture the tins.
