Middle East Manufactured 2 Gallon Petrol Can Pack of 5

£6.00

Due to the Rough terrain and long distances travelled in the Middle east it was realised that the standard British/Commonwealth 2 Gallon can could not cope and would leak after a short period of time. At the end of 1941 a new 2 Gallon can was developed utilising some of the features of the German Jerr-ican. This consisted of two pressed sides in a heavier gauge steel and a single weld around the centre. All known Petrol Cans have a diagonal handle spanning the seam, some Water Cans have a handle that runs parallel to the seem but most seem to diagonally span the seem(Keeping Up?). The Water cans came into production early 1942 and are seen in photographs on vehicles from around the middle of 1942. These 2 Gallon Petrol Cans were not produced until the end of  1942. Water saving was given the priority over petrol. Most photographs of vehicles in Italy show these style of Cans.
