Originally designed for use on ships as a warm waterproof coat it found use in the desert as a very warm windproof overcoat and was loved by the Long Range Desert Group for use on their road watching operations when they had to lay up for a long period of time. It was made with a Kapok lining or sheepskin lining. Its a bit like wearing a cardboard box as they are very stiff when new and only loosen up a bit with wear.
